Douglas RUFC came away with another bonus point win against Sefton RFC on Saturday mounting more pressure on top of the table Manchester. Superb kicking out of hand in tricky conditions from Bryn Snellgrove provided ample territorial advantage throughout the first half and it wasn’t long before Sefton buckled. Stirling carries in open play from locks Singer and Hoose-Owen sucked in the Sefton defence and two cross-field kicks resulted in two tries from Wood and Stephens. The marron and gold engine room continued to dominated set-piece and slick counter attacking from Douglas’s pacey back line put Murry in for two 5 pointers under the sticks before the end of the first half (Sefton 0 – 29 Douglas). Sefton regrouped at halftime and put many phases together in the second half however big hits from Douglas’s back row often dislodged a muddy ball. Good counter attacking by Caine ensured Sefton were unable to get out of their half and this field position led to the first points of the second half with scrum half Whillie sniping his was over the line. Two rare failings to make touch by Sefton’s impressive battler of a 10 allowed full-back Hyland to orchestrate a precise counter and put Todd through on an inside ball. Wood put the icing on the cake late into the second half with an intercept try for a final score of 0-48.
