Old Mutual Douglas book-ended a gritty performance on the road with first and last tries, but in between were picked open by Anselmians ex-international Simon Mason. He opened his account with a penalty at 5 minutes, but after 15 minutes Douglas captain Guy Wood helped orchestrate a try from the in-form flyer Ben Webb. Two converted tries after Mason hooked up the breeze on the cusp of half time for 17-5 rocked the visitors, but only solid Anselmians defence kept the rampaging Douglas pack at bay after the break with Liam Kirkpatrick to the fore. Douglas prop Jareth Mackay earned a yellow card and Robert Todd pulled up with an ankle injury to be replaced by Noel Capewell. Anselmians took advantage of the re-organisation and 14 men with a converted try for 24-5, before Douglas cruelly lost Mark Magee, although replacement Dave Sherwin was only narrowly denied a score after a storming run. Nathan Knights off the bench brought fresh Douglas impetus, but as Anselmians pressure told one defensive slip was enough for the home side to claim a fourth bonus point try after 75 minutes. Douglas roared back with a converted Luke Hylandscore to finish the stronger but further points remained elusive.
