Bolstered by a visiting oversees contingent that included Stephen Tansell from Canada, Andy Malpass from the USA and Ben Potefrom the UK, the George Fathers Memorial match basked in sunshine and bonhomie as the seniors rolled back the years. In front of spectating ex-Douglas winger Richard Fathers and visiting ex-Douglas prop Tim Manning, the seniors played to strengths forged in the heat of the changing room to sweep aside the Juniors challenge with champagne mauling. Allegations that the scoreline may not be entirely accurate and that post-match tampering occurred are of course unfounded. The Seniors then swashbuckled some more, and Peter Bradley and Ben Pote were star karaoke turns. Bradley crooned to Deborah Snellgrove, and Pote heavy-metalled Metallica in style. Glyn Hooson-Owen invited Bryn Snellgrove up to the drinks rostrum to celebrate the recent birth of a new Douglas front-row forward, along with Guy Wood, Stephen Tansell and Paul Leivers for various misdemeanours. Christian Brew visiting from Aberdeen and sailor Laurie Williams sported de rigueur beards, while Anne Howarth whipped up mince pies and chip baps and did’nt dance on the table.
