11TH NOV - REGIONAL 2 NORTH WEST
14.15 KICK OFF
Saturday’s opponents at Port-e-Chee are also highly placed and sit alongside Birkenhead Park in the league standings. Unbeaten since September when Regional Two newcomers Whitchurch sprang a Shropshire surprise, Bowdon are regular guests here over the years and fixtures have been as entertaining as much as they’re difficult to predict - last season’s double by Bowdon included a 29-39 thriller at Port-e-Chee, and came after Douglas won home and away the season prior.
Douglas squad news includes the expected debut of front-row man Jack Laughnane, a strong new recruit, and the loss of Angus Wheeler through injury and possibly Brett Pyke with an HIA. Douglas are not short of cover though, and up front there are back-row and three-quarter options. Percy Hampton and Kyle Martin will hope to move off the bench, while Shay and Seth Waterworth and John Dutnall may feature in selection thoughts. As ever, Thursday training can unveil surprises, but Phil Cringle’s MO brings out the best when needed. Just recall a Man of the Match performance from Craig McGee last week for confirmation.
