DOUGLAS WELCOME WINNINGTON PARK TO PORT-E-CHEE
SATURDAY 11TH OCTOBER
Storm Amy put paid to the Douglas fixture at Burnage on Saturday and the re-arranged date is yet to be decided, but amongst the rest of the fixtures played in Regional 2 North West, several results raised eyebrows. Last season’s promotion favourites Waterloo are now played four, lost four, and although having played three away from their Blundellsands home, losing to Widnes and West Park St Helens is a surprise. Similarly Birkenhead Park, back in after relegation from Regional 1 North West, have lost to West Park, North Ribblesdale and Sandbach since beating Widnes narrowly on the opening day of the season.
The arrival of old rivals Winnington Park on Saturday, equal on league points with Douglas, gives the Manx side an opportunity to overtake Northwich in fourth should the Cheshire men trip up against Burnage. Douglas beat Park at Burrows Hill and at Port-e-Chee last season, and Park lost 10-33 at home last week to Widnes, but Douglas will note the 58 point second-round thrashing that WP gave Waterloo irrespective of the Merseysiders current form. Ethan Kermode may make a home debut for Douglas, and Nathan Robson could also return from injury to strengthen the squad.
If there’s one thing certain, Douglas coach Phil Cringle will ensure nothing is taken for granted . .
Please note the 1.30pm ko to allow WP to catch a 5.30pm flight.
DOUGLAS UNDER 13S
A curtain raiser to the league match versus Winnington Park on Saturday will feature Douglas under 13’s v Southern Nomads under 13’s. There’s also a cake sale to fundraise for the Cheshire Cup U/13’s entry. With the seniors doing battle and Douglas hosting Winnington Park, Port-e-Chee will be THE place to be on Saturday .
