Old Mutual Douglas at Glossop deserved so much more than they got after spending most of the 80 minutes in command. Predictably a forward dominated affair given heavy going underfoot, Douglas controlled matters in a first half where penalties rewarded pressure. Bryn Snellgrove fired over kicks in the 5th, 27th and 30th minutes, and Glossop responded in the 12th and 36th from John Penrose for 6-9 at the break.
The home side tightened their game and pick and drove through the forwards effectively, but Douglas defence was sound. Snellgrove punished an offside at the ruck with a penalty for 6-12 after Douglas debutant Sam Reid kicked through. A try from Archie Read put Glossop in front with the conversion for 13-12, but Douglas stormed straight back with snappy offloading for a Snellgrove try and conversion for 13-19. A second Glossop score only fanned the visitors intent, and Paul Leivers thundered over with a short range try as the forwards dug in for 20-26 with three minutes left on the clock. Glossop recalled their thumping at Douglas in September and upped the ante with an unconverted try on the 78th minute for 25-26. Just as Douglas were pocketing their best away win of the season, an 80th minute penalty from a ruck in front of the Douglas posts reduced the proceeds to a meagre losing bonus point.
