Colin Garvey
Favourite Food: anything Thai or a fillet steak.
Favourite Bevarage: Anything....as long as I can drink it in a pub! (soonish please)
Favourite rugby player: Jonathon Davies (as he excelled in both codes)
Rugby Highlight: Douglas beating De La Salle a couple of years back to get promotion.
Profession: General Practitioner
Years Experience as a Doctor: coming up for 30 years.
Best part of the job: Sometimes knowing that you have actually made a difference for someone.
How the Coronavirus has changed your work and personal life: From a work perspective I do very few face to face consultations at the moment. The majority are phone-based. From a personal life point of view, I miss being able to go down to my local ‘The Glen Mona Hotel’ for a few drinks with family and friends, or going to a favourite restaurant with my wife Ange.
Thing you miss most with your busy schedule: See previous answer!
Top tip to stay safe: 2 metres...always!
Are you Provided with suitable amount of PPE: yes, we all have at the Practice. As I mentioned earlier, face you face contacts have reduced so I don’t need to wear PPE very often, but if I see ANY patient, I must wear the PPE.
Do I think things will get back to normal or will there be a new normal: a vaccine is the key. A new ‘normal’ with an element of social distancing will, I feel, exist until we get that vaccine. Only then will old ‘normal’ return.
Do I feel rugby will start again in September (and if not when): I really feel September might be pushing it, though I really hope I’m wrong. The number of confirmed cases in the UK and IOM really should be minuscule before we could consider a contact sport, I feel. Fingers crossed!
A Big thank you to Colin for giving us an insight into the covid-19 from a key workers perspective.
Friday, we hear from Kirry Joughin / Kizza
